THE BRITISH MEDICAL ASSOCIATION - UNDERSTANDING PSORIASIS

Reviewed by Webite Manager

This neat, pocket-sized book is another title in the very popular “Family Doctor Series” from The British Medical Association.

The book attempts to explain Psoriasis in simple, easy-to-understand language.  It is divided into 12 short chapters which cover the following topics: What is Psoriasis?, Skin Changes in Psoriasis, What Causes Psoriasis, Types of Psoriasis, What Treatments are Available? Will the Psoriasis Come Back? Psoriasis & other Diseases, Future Research, Questions & Answers, Case Histories, Useful Addresses and an Index to help you locate specific topics or points.

The book makes good use of colour illustrations and photographs to illustrate facts.  I really liked the way the book is laid out and the way the author has included a “Key Points” section at the end of each chapter.  This outlines the most important information from each chapter in a couple of sentences and would serve as a handy reference tool for readers.

Understanding Psoriasis deals with the facts without scaring readers.  It would perhaps work as a quick and easy read for a new patient before they went to see their doctor for the first time.  It equips the reader with enough information to be able to ask pertinent questions during a doctor’s appointment about the way ahead.
